Akiko Elders (Global Environmental Change, 2008)

Akiko Elders was named "UMD Geography Alumna of the Month" in June.  Our very first Global Environmental Change student, Akiko began the curriculum when it was still in draft form, and graduated the year after its approval by the campus.  The ENSP Concentration in Global Environmental Change is sponsored by the Department of Geographical Sciences.  Since graduation, Akiko has completed a Master's degree in Geography at Maryland and is now working on a Ph.D. in Climate Dynamics at George Mason University.  Along the way, she's held positions at the National Science Foundation, a contracting position at NOAA, and has been teaching summer school classes in Geographical Sciences here at Maryland.  For more about Akiko, go here.
